We study the transmission properties of a nonlinear periodic structure containing alternating slabs of a nonlinear right-handed material and a linear left-handed material. We find that the transmission associated with the zero-averaged refractive-index gap exhibits a bistable characteristic that is

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Effects of the frequencyβdependence of the permeability and permittivity of a leftβhanded material (LHM), when used as one of the components of a Bragg reflector, are investigated. It is found that typical broad Bragg reflectivity peaks appear in the frequency range in which the material is not leftβhanded. Inside the LHM range, the Bragg peaks are very narrow and of low intensity. Β© 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
