✦ Synopsis

The bound-free emission of a mass-selected molecular beam of helium hydride has been investigated. Excited molecules were produced by electron transfer to helium hydride ions. The study of different isotopic mixtures and lifetime measurements support the assignment B 2 ll + X 2 Z+ for the observed broad-band emission between 200 and 500 nm. The lifetime of the B state was determined to be 18 f 1 ns.

The excimers are formed via a photochemical reaction between H2(C 'II., B 'XL) and rare gases following excitation with synchrotron radiation. Broad fluorescence continua in the near UV are observed and assigned to the rare gas hydride transition B \*II +X 'Z +. In the case of NeH, the A \*Z + state
