โฆ Synopsis
Kirchhoff's integral equation describes the transient phenomena of electromagnetic fields. This impfies that one can simulate the transient electromagnetic fields using the boundary element method (BEM) based on KirchhoWs integral equation.
So called 'wake-fields', which are the transient electromagnetic fields produced by a charged particle at any discontinuities in an accelerator cavity, are a typical example of the transient phenomena. Recently, it has been pointed out that one can accelerate electrons using the wake-fields efficiently. However, it is necessary to understand how the wake-fields occur in the accelerator systems, if one wants to control the wake-fields.
In this paper, a three dimensional simulation method for wake-fields in the time domain, which is based on BEM, is presented. In this method, less storage is required for computation than in traditional methods such as the finite difference method. Also, one can treat wake-fields produced by a point-like moving charged particle using this method.
