✦ Synopsis


A general approach to impose homogeneous boundary conditions on algebraic systems deriving from variational formulations of di!erential problems is presented. The proposed approach proves to be e!ective and its performances are particularly enhanced when sparse matrices are dealt with. It applies to bi-and tri-dimensional cases and turns out to be independent of the physical nature of the problem. Examples of the algorithm application are reported concerning the "nite element analysis of electromagnetic waveguides.
