This volume could well be a primer in the sense not of an introductory text, but perhaps of a 'device for detonating the main charge' (Chambers dictionary), to explode the imagination of individual pathologists who may so far have found these subjects too forbidding. Images are the stuff of histology and histopathology. They call for a rigorous approach if histopathology is to progress in relation to prognosis and evidence-based therapy. This book is a way into this world-an open-sesame rather than an introduction, mediated by the powerful and stimulating intellect of the second editor and his excellent rapport with pathologists in general, and with the first editor and the pathologist contributors in particular.
