✦ Synopsis
degradation products of chloramphenicol have been isolated from the culture medium. On the basis of these products, it has been possible to suggest a degradation path, the principal steps of which are indicated by arrows showing the presumed order. The reactions are: 1. oxidation, 2. hydrolysis, 3. decarboxylation and oxidation, 4. decarboxylation, 5. reduction and deamination, 6. hydroxylation, 7. oxidative cleavage.
