✦ Synopsis
sive amount of government legislation and regulation bordering on absurdity will always be one of docile adjustment. It is more likely that the affected manufacturing processes will be closed down or will be transferred, together with the associated research, to a country where the external constraints are more favorable. This has already started to happen in genetic engineering. I would therefore have preferred the book to end with an appeal to the legislators that. before enacting laws and regulations, they should ask themselves whether their proposals are sensible and feasible, and especially whether they are comparable with conditions in other countries.
In summary, this is a book well worth reading, and can be recommended not only for chemists but for everyone interested in the history of German industry.
