β¦ Synopsis
transfer reactions, as well as intervalence and electron transfer in metallo-proteins, receive adequate attention. The topic of inorganic photochemistry is presented in Chapter 7. Most of the selected examples originate from classical coordination compounds (Co"', Rh"' , Cr"' ), but some information is aIso included on organometaflic systems. Details on the intimate reaction mechanisms of excited state species are not given. In the final chapter the author discusses mechanistic studies on bioinorganic systems, and treats reactions of vitamin B I Z , carbonic anhydrase, and enzymatic reactions of dioxygen. Following this chapter a series of problems taken from the literature are given, which enables the student to check his understanding of the material presented.
Throughout the book ample references to the most recent work (up to 1990) are included. The book is easy to read, it is technically well finished, and should be very popular among students interested in this area. It is highly suitable for the level it is aimed at, and it is obvious from the clear treatment that the author is an active researcher in this area.
