โœฆ Synopsis

A brief introduction to the "Neutron Activation Tables" is followed by very clear definitions of the tabulated values.

The tables are set out clearly in the order of the mass numbers. Data are given for the following reactions of all stable elements and for a large number of synthetic elements: a) with slow reactor neutrons (mostly n, y) reactions with thermal and epithermal neutrons, b) with fast reactor neutrons, and c) with 14.5 MeV neutrons. In each case the tables show the starting nuclide and its isotopic abundance, the reactions, the half-life of the product, the reaction cross section, the activities for all six irradiation times, and the strongest gamma lines and their intensities, The appendix provides information on the complex disintegration series of some radionuclides formed in neutron reactions.

Along with the very clear arrangement of the tables it should be particularly noted that the author has taken great care to collect and select the best-attested values from the most recent records of nuclear data. This is therefore a valuable reference work for daily use in the laboratory and will certainly be of use not only for the nuclear physicist, chemist, or physician but also for all those who are only occasionally concerned with neutron activation. Production and printing match the high quality of its contents.
