โฆ Synopsis
The book considers a really interesting topic for quantitative research in the social sciences and would be welcome if well-written, statistically sound and presenting good applications. Unfortunately, it does not have these properties. While it might be still acceptable for an applied researcher not to have any derivation of the statistical theory presented in a book, also she or he will give up reading when confronted with the misprints in the coding examples in Chapter 5, with unexplained notation and imprecise formulas and explanations. The book contains many relevant references, but it is difficult to follow the author without knowing the cited literature; the standard reference, however, the book of on GLM models, is missing. The examples have more the flavor of toy examples than of real data examples; especially there is no example with more than three classification variables. Finally, there is no advice how to use the relevant statistical software.
