includes advances in molecular genetics of Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease as well as Lewy body dementia and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and bovine spongiform encephalitis. There has also been an attempt to balance these expanded sections with the more classical neuropsychiatric disorders such as neurosyphilis and Sydenham's chorea and there is a large section on cerebrovascular disease. It is nice to see the historic descriptions of Wernicke's encephalopathy described.

In conclusion, this is an up-to-date, comprehensive and well-presented classic textbook. It is an essential reference for any clinical psychiatrist or neurologist. It also provides the basic background for researchers in the ®eld of neuropsychiatry. I can thoroughly recommend it.
