Amino-l,2,3-thiadiazoles were prepared by J . Goerdeler and G . Gnad, by treating acyl isothiocyanates with diazoalkanes and carefully deacylating the N-phenoxycarbonylamines (2) thus obtained with weak bases in aqueous acetone. Other acyl groups cannot be removed without changing the structure of the ring. The parent compound ( 1 ) [R = HI, m.p. I52 "C, is made by careful hydrolysis of 5-phenoxycarbonylarninothiadiazole. Other diazoalkanes give ( I ) with substituents in the 4-position, e.g. 4-methyl-l,2,3-thiadiazole, (m.p. 120 "C) and 4-ethoxycarbonyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole, m.p. 126 ' C ,
