This excellent book contains a series of comprehensive review articles covering general aspects of HSV infection including replication, pathogenesis and immunobiology, epidemiology, clinical features and diagnostic evaluation and treatment, management and prevention of both genital and neonatal herpes simplex.

Each chapter is written by different authors, who are all American and without exception internationally recognised for their work on HSV. The articles are of a uniformly high standard and although there is some overlap between related reviews, careful editing means that this is kept to a minimum. All of the chapters provide an overview of the published literature, and are evidence based and informative. All key references are quoted and publications as late as 1995 are included. The book is aimed primarily at clinicians and microbiologists with an interest in the management of HSV.
