The following review of three major books on public management appears outside the Book Review section. Because one of the books is by Laurence Lynn (JPAM's book review editor)-a book I judged to be of major significance, particularly with the other two-it would not have been appropriate for it to have been included with the other book reviews under Lynn's editorship. Thus, I have made it my responsibility. The essay by Eugene B. McGregor Jr. is a thorough and thoughtful review of the three books as well as a more general discussion of the diverse ways in which public management research is evolving.
