โœฆ Synopsis

The remainder of the book is dedicated to three-dimensional frameworks and amorphous networks, a large fraction using zeolite host materials but also covering other microporous nets such as the Cd(CN), system. Bein's chapter on clusters, quantum dots. and polymers is a fit- ting complement to the work presented by other authors on similar themes, providing a wide-ranging yet very readable account of the use of nanovessels as reaction media. Mallouk's work on self-assembled electron transport chains in zeolites is an elegant example of how these principles of zeolite inclusion chemistry can be exploited to help address the problems of photosynthesis mimics. The final two chapters on the production of sol-gel derived glasses are excellent reviews of this exciting area. not only giving background information but also conveying a fine sense of just how versatile this approach can be for the production of functional composite materials and films (e.g. enzyme derivatized materials or glasses for nonlinear optics).

In summary, this book presents a comprehensive overview written in short sections which whet the appetite for further details. It is a must for anyone even remotely interested in inclusion type phenomena, and for those seeking an introduction to the area I can think of no better way to get the feet wet.
