This is a nice little book on basic statistical methods and their realization by Excel and SPSS for users from the life sciences. The author is a zoologist, which may explain some of the weak points of the book. He makes many typical mistakes: The error probability is denoted by a and p and is in the latter case the p-value; in the case of a two-sided test two alternative hypotheses H 1 and H 2 are considered; a standard normal distribution is a normal distribution with

x x ¼ 0 and s ¼ 1. This is completed by many misprints and linguistic errors. Since the conception of the book is good, the reviewer hopes for a thoroughly revised second edition.
