Two parallels are drawn between the Emperor's successors. His eldest son lives in luxury and becomes susceptible to the corruption of the Sky Wing, and his youngest is forced to start life anew, as a simple man living in the forest. Salus, the younger son, embarks on a journey to fulfill his father's wish after having lost all memories of his past.
