✦ Synopsis

ncreased levels of proinflammatory cells, including activated eosinophils, basophils and mast cells, are seen at sites of allergen challenge in allergic diseases of the airways. Mechanisms for the specific recruitment of these cell types theoretically could involve either specific upregulation of adhesion molecules and chemoattraction, or the initiation and maintenance of proliferation and differentiation of inflammatory cell progenitors derived from the bone marrow.
