✦ Synopsis
The electronic structure of the benzene methylene isomers fulvene, dimethylenecyclobutene, and trimethylenecyclopropene is studied using spin-coupled theory. It is shown that the three isomers all possess three noninteracting -bonds and very low resonance energies. This is to be contrasted with benzene, where the symmetric coupling of the -electron spins around the ring provides a considerable larger resonance energy.
