Oxidation of the enol diphenylphosphate ester derived from a 3-substituted 2,4A-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-l-one by the CrO3-DMP reagent affords in high yield the cross-conjugated dienone 8. The same dienone can be obtained from safranal derivative 10 by reaction with the same reagent.
