✦ Synopsis
capacitance R s 1 ⍀, C s 0 pF . This clearly indicates that the chip-resistor and chip-capacitor loadings have constructive effects on the antenna size reduction. The measured radiation patterns are also plotted in Figure 5. Similar characteristics as seen in Figure 4 are observed. However, it should be noted that the antenna gains of the two antennas are very slightly varied.
3. Conclusions
The design of slot-coupled compact broadband circular microstrip antennas with chip-resistor and chip-capacitor loadings has been described and discussed. Results indicate that, by combining both the chip-resistor and chip-capacitor loadings, a significant antenna size reduction, but with much enhanced antenna bandwidth, can be achieved. Also, good impedance matching can be easily obtained by adjusting the coupling-slot size and tuning-stub length. This compact broadband antenna design can find applications where compactness and wider antenna bandwidth are required.
