1,3,4,6-tetrathiapentalene-2,5-dione (1) reacts in a Wittig-type fashion with aromatic/aliphatic aldehydes 2a -h upon heating in neat triethyl phosphite to his-substituted tetrathiapentalenes (3a -h), which can be oligo-/polymerized oxidatively to give vinylogous TTF derivatives or highly conducting, polymeric solids (OaT = 1 S/on), respectively.
