β¦ Synopsis
We have developed an ecient synthetic pathway for various bis-calix[4]arenes with imine linkages by using a simple condensation procedure and carried out the binding study of thiopheno bis-calix[4]arene with biologically interesting viologen guests.

## Synthesis and Conformational Analysis of Extended Calix[4]arenes and a Doubly Bridged arene. --(JOERGENSEN, M.;
Novel azo-calix[4] arenes have been prepared by the incorporation of both ester and amide groups. Six bis(phenylazo)-O-substituted calix[4]arene derivatives were isolated and fully characterized. NMR analyses show that these compounds are in cone conformation in solution at room temperature.
