Abstract

Department of Defense (DOD) installations with significant natural resources are required to write and implement an Integrated Natural Resources Manage‐ment Plan (INRMP). These plans must support the military training mission but also incorporate principles of ecosystem management at a landscape scale. Bird conservation planning by conservation initiatives such as Partners in Flight is based on a landscape‐level, ecosystem approach and focus on partner‐ships. State and federal programs are working toward similar objectives. We il‐lustrate how the partnerships and science of bird conservation planning benefit INRMPs and support the military mission. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
