โฆ Synopsis
A biological treatment process employing immobilized microbial populations was field tested on contaminated ground water having dilute concentrations of volatile organics and organic pesticides. The process, consisting of two packed bed reactors in series containing specijic adapted microbial strains immobilized on a porous diatomaceous earth support, was operated in a plugflow configuration over a 90-day period at aflow rate of 80 gallons per day (gpd). Process uiability of this multiple microbelmultiple toxicant treatment approach was determined based upon comparisons to carbon adsorption technology.
