## Abstract The fragmentation pathways of several substituted 1,4βnaphthoquinones have been studied by multi stage mass spectrometry. Methods for the recognition and identification of 1,4βnaphthoquinones and of substitution patterns on the naphthoquinone nucleus are outlined.

Glucosylceramide (GluCer) is a major sphingolipid of plant tissue and, thus, abundant in nature and in dietary food sources. The lipid backbones of mammalian GluCer (sphingosine, d18 : 1 14 , and ceramide) induce cell death (apoptosis) and inhibit colon carcinogenesis, it is critical to know the str
Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and the fast atom bombardment (FAB) ionization method were used to determine the structures of phosphonosphingolipids. Water-soluble components, aminoethylphosphonic acid and N-methylaminoethylphosphonic acid, were distinguished easily by the ions at m/z 126 and 140,
