The biorefinery concept is based on proprietary olefin metathesis technology from Materia in which catalyst performance has now been increased by a factor of fifteen. A commercial-scale production plant is now operational, producing a proprietary product for use by Cargill. The US Department of Energy has provided part of the funding for the jv.
