β¦ Synopsis
The composition and distribution of the macrobenthic polychaete fauna in the Evros Delta (North Aegean Sea) have been investigated by means of 4 replicate quantitative samples collected at 35 sites. 10 species were found and, in additional qualitative samples, the sedentary species Ficopomurus enigmaticus was collected. On the basis of the similarity in distribution among stations, 3 groups of species have been distinguished. One of these groups includes the species Spio decorum and Hediste diversicolor which were both dominant and present at almost all stations. The distribution of species in the study area seems to depend on factors such as salinity. granulometric composition and organic matter of the sediment and interspecific competition. but mainly on the degree of "confinement", namely the degree of exchange with the open sea. At the most isolated stations, the lowest number of species and the highest values of abundance and biomass were recorded.

## Abstract Monthly samples of __Abra ovata__ were collected during February 1983βJanuary 1984 in the Evros Delta (N. Aegean Sea). Population density (mean annual value = 2407.5 ind Β· m^β2^) was characterized by seasonal variation. An analysis of the length frequency distributions shows that one an
The associated macrofauna of four Aegean Sea sponge species (Apelas oroides, Petrosia ficiforrnis, lrcinia variahilis and Aplysina aerophoha) was compared. The total number of individuals and species was found to be related to sponge volume for all sponge species. The associated macrofaunal weight
The assemblage of Anemonia viridis which is an important component of the photophilic soft algae biocoenosis, has not been adequately studied up to date. The A. viridis assemblage studied, was poor in species number compared to other photophilic soft algae assemblages, possibly because of its peculi
