β¦ Synopsis
The development and investigation of biomaterials for medical use is one of the important areas of scientific research in the USSR.' ,' However, the lack of papers in English of Soviet scientists in the international journals of this field makes it impossible to obtain comprehensive knowledge of the state of biomaterials studies in the USSR.
The following report is an attempt to represent the main trends of research in biomaterials carried out by leading Soviet groups. Obviously, it is impossible to cover all aspects of fundamental and applied studies on biomaterials in this report. We have tried to include references providing the most detailed information about the works of the mentioned groups. If some of the references are not available, the readers can communicate directly with the author(s) of the selected papers.
