This volume describes techniques currently used for membrane fractionation and characterization. The text consists of eight chapters and six appendices written by 15 contributing authors. Chapter 1 describes the organelles of animal cells and chapter 2 outlines fractionation schemes for plant cells. Following these introductory chapters are six additional ones describing specific techniques. The techniques outlined in detail include immunological methods, membrane lipid characterization, solubilization and characterization of membrane proteins, and spectroscopic methods.
