✦ Synopsis

The paper deals with a brief rbsum6 of the development of the oceans and continents during the late Mesozoic and the Tertiary. Special consideration is given to the forming of ocean floors. The basis of this r6sum6 are papers of geologists and paleontologists and a former paper of the author. The present distribution of animals and plants and the possibility to explain recent distribution through drift or plate tectonics is discussed.
