โœฆ Synopsis

Thermal Insulation

Depending on whether the tank is underground, above ground, or in a building, thermal insulation may be critical in order to avoid heat losses and/or to offer contact protection when the reactor is run in a thermophilic process.

Expanded plastic slabs of polyurethane serve as insulating material within the lower zone of the wall. They are equipped with moisture barriers in order to prevent the penetration of water. In the upper zone of the tank wall, expanded polystyrene slabs or mineral wool mats are often fi xed, or alternatively plastic foam. The thermal insulation is covered with riveted metal sheets which serve as blinds and for protection from humidity.
