Abstract

The binding energy and compressibility of alkali metals are calaulated from the Ashcroft's empty core model potential on the basis of core radii obained by the fittings to the phonon data. The importance of overlap exchange repulsion and the correct dielectric screening theory is discussed. On the whole, a very satisfactory agreement between theoretical results and experimental data is obtained from these considerations.
