โฆ Synopsis
The reaction of CHFQ with olefins, induced by infrared multiphoton excitation, was studied under various conditions. In one set of experiments, the irradiation was performed at 9.47 urn. At this wavelength the oletins are transparent and CHFCII, which absorbs the laser light, decomposes and forms the carbene :CFCI. A cycloaddition to the olefins then takes place. In another set of experiments, excitation was performed at 10.59 pm. At this wavelength the energy is absorbed by one of the olefins. In a mixture of cis-and trans-butene irradiated at low pressure, a selective addition to trans-butene takes place. The results indicate that a direct bimolecular reaction between trans-butene and CHFClz occurs with subsequent elimination of HCI.
