similar problems of low self-esteem, distorted body image and body concept as their female counterparts. Some information about the male focus on fitness rather than thinness may save the less experienced counsellor from being duped by such a 'healthy' way of life.
It is commendable that the reader is encouraged to extend her/his reading. The reading list given is somewhat narrow, focusing on books written mainly from a feminist perspective. It is refreshing therefore to see the work of the great Hilde Bruch recommended but I think she would be amused to see her book The Golden Cage renamed as The Golden Gate! Perhaps that reflects the high incidence of eating distress on America's West Coast, among all the 'Beautiful people' who are 'dying to be thin'.
