✦ Synopsis

The isolation of 14 Oxaefllin-resistant strains of Staph. aureus is reported. They were found over a period of 3 months on a ward for premature infants. One strain was isolated from a case of osteomyelitis. During the preceeding years as well as during the 6 months following the isolation of these strains Oxacillinresistant Staph. aurens had not been demonstrated in environmental investigations on this ward. The phage pattern of the strains was similar, but not identical. Phage group III was predominant. The problems of Oxacillin resistance, particularly the cross-resistance to the various semi-synthetic penicillins and cephalosporins, and their clinical implications are discussed. Finally, the consequences on the therapy, with special reference to infections in premature infants, are described.
