✦ Synopsis
The hepatic dysmetabolic substratum as well as the chronic character of Porphyria cutanea tarda (P.c.t.) of the adult are already known. The authors investigated the presence of anti-liver autoantibodies in 75 patients suffering with this disease.
By employing complement fixation, passive haemagglutination, immunechromatography and immune-fluorescence the presence of these antibodies in 55 of the investigated eases was demonstrated.
These antibodies belong to the class of anti-eytoplasmatie as well as to that of anti-nuclear antibodies.
The singificance of these antibodies is discussed in the pathogeny of P.c.t. of the adult. They are considered to represent a secondary auto-immune process that participates in the maintenance of the hepatic disturbances.
