โœฆ Synopsis

Chinese abstracts 14s are rather conservative. Owing to the fact that the rotation factor is considered to be constant, the calculation leads to different 8, values for specimens of different sizes. If the rotation factor measured in tests is used. then essentially the same 8, values will be obtained for three specimens of different sizes.

Hence & is a material constant. The double gauges designed are simple and convenient for measuring the rotation factor.

(2) The relation 8 = 8, t 8, may be used to correlate K,, with the J-integral.

(3) Measurements show that using Si to estimate the acceptable defect is too conservative for medium and low strength steels with fibrous fracture similar to 1.5 MnVN steels. The R curve is more suitable for estimating the fracture toughness of the material.

(4) The authors suggest that the deflection point between the linear and curvilinear parts of original fatigue crack be defined as the point for measuring 6.

The present paper describes a fundamentally different approach to the nonlinear plate theory. Based upon an analogy between linear elasticity theory and linear thin plate theory, the development herein presented introduces a "moment tensor," a nonlinear "curvature tensor," boundary conditions on mom

The problem under consideration is that of an elastically supported plate containing a through crack and subjected to out-of-plane symmetric bending. Using Reissner's theory, the problem is formulated for a specially orthotropic material, and is reduced to a singular integral equation. The resulting
