✦ Synopsis

The response of girders with slender webs, when subjected to concentrated load, has been investigated using nonlinear finite element analyses and comparisons with tests. The conclusions are that, for the investigated girder dimensions, the moment capacity of the flange does not influence the bearing capacity for patch loading. Instead, it is the bending stiffness of the flange that influences the resistance.

This paper concerns the behaviour of bridge girder webs subjected to concentrated forces that are introduced in the web during launching, a load case usually referred to as patch loading. So far, this type of loading has, in engineering practice, been dealt with using formulas originating from inves

In this paper results are presented from numerical simulations of a travelling patch load on the flange of I-shaped plate girders of three different dimensions. The FEM modelling aims at simulating the load case of bridge launching over multiple supports. The girders have typical bridge girder dimen
