I present recent developments in the lattice QCD calculations of the light hadron spectrum. Emphasis is placed on the failure of the quenched approximation in reproducing the observed spectrum and indications that the discrepancy is reduced by introducing two flavors of light dynamical quarks.

After a short presentation of lattice QCD and some of its current practical limitations, I review recent progress in applications to phenomenology. Emphasis is placed on heavy-quark masses and on hadronic weak matrix elements relevant for constraining the CKM unitarity triangle. The main numerical r
The construction of the operators and correlators required to determine the excited baryon spectrum is presented, with the aim of exploring the spatial and spin structure of the states while minimizing the number of propagator inversions. The method used to construct operators that transform irreduc
Recent progress in lattice calculations of nucleon structure functions is reported, with emphasis on generalized parton distributions.
