I believe each emergency physician and each emergency medicine group (regardless of the group's structure) should commit to giving back as much to the field of emergency medicine as we have been given. One step in attaining this difficult goal is to more clearly recognize and delineate the boundaries and ethical standards of our field, with full cognizance of the strong forces of the marketplace. While such forces are both powerful and inevitable, they are scarcely omnipotent.
