✦ Synopsis
The book is written very clearly and the typesetting of the equations is excellent. It has been carefully proof read, and the referencing is surprisingly up to date, with citations from 1998. The ®gures are all black and white, and they are generally excellent. It is a pity that the tomography ®gures towards the end of the book were not in colour, but the black and white reproduction is good. The lack of colour has helped keep the price of this enormous (over 1000 pages), specialized book down, such that it is excellent value. Given the topic, theoretical nature and advanced level of this book, its audience will be comparatively small, but they will count this book as a gem in their collections.
