BASF to build sodium methylate plant in Brazil
B ASF is planning to construct a production plant for sodium methylate in GuaratinguetΓ‘, Brazil, the company's largest site in South America.
The 60 000 metric tons per year plant will be the first such plant for this product in South America and is primarily intended to supply the regional market.
Sodium methylate is an efficient catalyst for the production of biodiesel.
Sumitomo Chemical expands resorcinol production capacity
S umitomo Chemical will build a new production facility for resorcinol at its Oita Works in Japan.
Resorcinol, a core product of Sumitomo Chemical's Chemicals business, is used as a raw material in a range of chemical products including adhesives for rubber and wood, flame retardants, ultra-violet absorbents, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, functional polymers, and colourants.
The new resorcinol production facility will add 10 000 tons of capacity and will be completed by February 2010.
