โฆ Synopsis
It is demonstrated that the creep deformation of pyrolytic graphite at high temperatures in response to tensile stress in tbe basal plane may be the result of the independent two-dimensional plastic distortion of each individual plane of carbon atoms. The distortion within each plane is produced by the movement of unit c-axis dislocations mainly by climb from a generalised Herring-Nabarro mechanism.
