## Abstract Nonparametric estimation of the distribution function of the annual maxima (AM) flood series is considered. In practice, the good behaviour of the nonparametric estimators depends heavily on the smoothing parameter or bandwidth. Nowadays, there exist only two (optimal under a mathematic
