Abstract

This letter reveals a design approach for a bandpass shielding enclosure to be applied in modern handheld communication devices employing either an internal electric‐dipole antenna or an internal magnetic‐loop antenna. This enclosure features high transmittance at the wireless‐signal band and high shielding effectiveness outside this band, and has minimal influence on the radiation characteristics of the internal antennas used with these devices. A prototype was created and examined. The simulated and measured results demonstrate that the prototype can achieve the promised performance for either kind of internal antenna. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
