✦ Synopsis
Abstract
This article presents an ultra‐wideband planar monopole antenna with band‐notched characteristics. The proposed antenna consists of a sector monopole and a microstrip feedline with a quarter‐wavelength open‐circuited transmission line (a stub). The open‐circuited stub is connected in parallel with the microstrip feedline in order to achieve band‐notched performance. The measured impedance bandwidth for voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) ≤ 2 is from 3.01 to 11 GHz, except the notched band of 5.08 to 5.96 GHz for the WLAN system. This design technique is very suitable to develop other planar antennas for band‐notched applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
