Strong nonuniformity in the helical divertor flux distribution is seen both in numerical calculations and in experiments. Flux profiles along the divertor trace on the vacuum vessel change according to vacuum magnetic configurations. Diverted particles choose one of two X-points as the escaping chan

✦ Synopsis
Radial emission line intensity profiles of hydrogen atoms have been measured in the edge region of NBI-heated plasma. The ionization flow and the inward particle flux of the atoms are analyzed with the help of collisional-radiative (CR) model calculations. The results indicate that most of atoms are ionized before reaching last closed flux surface (LCFS). The global particle confinement time is also analyzed and estimated to be 10 ms. This value is in good agreement with the ion flux on divertor plates measured by a Langmuir probe array.
