β¦ Synopsis
Recent calculations indicate that vortices in classical2D Josephson junction arrays can move ballistically) We have designed and fabricated arrays consisting of underdamped aluminum tunnel junctions in order to detect ballistic vonices. Experimental observation of ballistic vortices is complicated by the fact that for high junction resistances, in the array step-like increases occur associated with collective switching into the dissipative state of rows of junctions.
