✦ Synopsis

This paper presents a new application of the static VAR compensator systems (SVSs) for balancing three-phase unbalanced loads, at the same time, improving their power factor to unity using the load compensation theory. Two methods are developed to determine the compensator elements and the associated energy saving. Applications are made to the Egyptian Aluminum Company loads and to a group of single-phase induction motor loads. The role of the static VAR compensator is determined for each application. Its rating and energy savings are evaluated.
